Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) consists of a heterogeneous group of clonal haematopoietic stem cell disorders that are characterized by peripheral cytopenia, hypercellular bone marrow (BM), and increased mortality due to the progression to acute myeloid leukaemia (AML).
